Add functionality and services that encourage consumers to reach for their phone instead of their wallet
With smartphone sales expected to account for 50% all new phone purchases in 2012, device manufacturers are scrambling to find new ways to make their offerings stand out. Increasingly, consumers are searching for features that make their mobile devices more efficient and productive, not just thinner or with new, rounded corners. Similarly, mobile operators continue to look for ways to add new subscribers, and keep the ones they already have, through add-value features and services. When it comes to mobile commerce, the operators and device manufacturers share the same challenge: How do they encourage consumers to reach for their phones instead of their wallet?
A mobeam-enabled mobile device replaces the stack of loyalty and gift cards that bloat the average consumer’s wallet, does away with the wad of paper-based coupons that inevitably get left on the kitchen table, and makes it possible to buy movie tickets on the mobile without having to search for the closest printer to print them out. Such functionality, and the services that are enabled by it, represents a solid step in turning the mobile device into a true mobile commerce facilitator.
